The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) helps low-to-moderate income workers and families get a tax break. Many people in Washington state are eligible for EITC, and this credit is potentially worth thousands of dollars.
“I work hard but it’s hard to make ends meet for me and my three kids. I heard about the Earned Income Tax Credit and got free help filling out my tax return. As a result, I received a refund of almost $5,000 this year! That has allowed me to catch up on my bills and put some money away to start savings account.”
Persons with disabilities, those living in rural areas, working grandparents, Native American and urban Indian communities, those who are serving or who have served in the military and many others are eligible to receive the credit.
This year, make sure and check to see if you qualify for EITC before you file. Use the IRS’s EITC Assistant to find out if you’re eligible.
