In Washington, the response to homelessness consists of federal, state-wide, and local efforts. Commerce provides a framework to ensure alignment of the various initiatives at every level of government. Activities to assist households experiencing homelessness occur at the county-level and services are delivered by contracted service providers or local government agencies.
The Legislature appropriates funding from state revenues for homeless housing and assistance, which is distributed by Commerce as competitive and noncompetitive grants to counties and nonprofit service providers.
