Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act
The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 awarded $38 million to Washington State through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) CDBG-CV program. Funds were distributed to local governments, economic development councils, and nonprofit organizations across the state for projects and public services focused on preventing the spread of the coronavirus, responding to the economic and public health effects of the pandemic, and preparing for future public health emergencies. Projects funded by the CDBG-CV grant program focused on achieving HUD’s national objective of serving low- to moderate-income persons.
CDBG-CV is a one-time grant allocation that will not be renewed for new funding cycles. Therefore, applications for CDBG-CV funding are closed and no further funding will be released. Commerce expects to close out the program at the end of its performance period in June 2026.
