RRP Applications
Paths to RRP certification
There are four different paths to RRP certification in Washington state:
- Firm RRP Certification – for businesses, property managers and landlords that perform renovation, repair or painting work on pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities
- Individual RRP Certification – for individuals who performs renovation, repair or painting work on pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities
- Individual RRP Certification from the EPA or another authorized state – an individual who is currently certified with the EPA or another authorized state must file for registration
To apply for Firm RRP Certification and Recertification, you need:
- Have an employee or owner with Individual RRP certification:
- The certificate must be valid and not within six months of expiration.
- The certified individual must supervise or perform the work.
- If the certified individual holds an out-of-state or EPA certification, there are additional requirements.
- Active business licenses and registrations:
- Washington State Department of Revenue account
- Washington State Business License
- Washington State Secretary of State registration (if applicable)
- LNI Contractor License (if applicable)

Steps to apply
- Download and complete the Firm RRP Application for Certification and Recertification (PDF)
- Mail the following to the Department of Commerce:
a. Completed Firm RRP Certification and Recertification Application
b. Copies of all Individual Renovator Certificates
c. $25 check or money order payable to the Washington State Department of Commerce - Certificates will be emailed.

To apply for an Individual RRP Certification or Recertification, you must complete a training course through a Washington State-accredited training provider. Your training provider will submit registration for individuals after completing the course.
If you have RRP certification from the EPA or another authorized state, you must apply for Individual RRP Application for Registration of Renovator Certification.
- The certificate must be valid and not within six months of expiration.
- If your firm is not already certified, you will submit at least two (2) applications, the Individual RRP Application for Registration of Renovator Certification and the Firm RRP Application. Each application requires a $25.00 fee, payable with one check.
- If your company does not hold an RRP firm certification from Washington Department of Commerce, you must apply for certification at the same time.
Steps to apply
- Download and complete this form: enter correct name
- Mail the following to the Department of Commerce:
- Completed Individual RRP Application. You may bundle with the Firm RRP application (if applicable).
- Copy of the out-of-state or EPA issued Individual Certifications
- $25 check or money order payable to the Washington State Department of Commerce
- If bundled with a firm application, you may pay with one check
- We will email your certification.
